about the apothecary
Riparia is a one-person herbal shop in Durango, Colorado, ancestral territory of the Ute, Pueblo, Jicarilla Apache, Hopi, and Diné. My offerings are inspired by and rooted in our local ecologies, where riparian, alpine, and desert environments meet.
My formulas prioritize local and organic ingredients, including herbs grown in my own garden, and are crafted in tune with the seasons, with community needs in mind.
about the apothecarist
I'm Billie (they/them), a queer, nonbinary person of plants. I'm a student of the Colorado School of Clinical Herbalism, and of folk herbalism practices rooted in my British and Celtic ancestry and North American and Southwest home regions.
I came to herbalism after a decade of working in publishing. Burnout found me hunched over a desk and pushed me to find my place in the Southwest's wilder reaches, where marmots and swallows and pinyon and mahonia welcomed me.
about the art
The Riparia logo is a print of a bank swallow (Riparia riparia), made with a linocut stamp hand-carved by Leah of Okay Poke Tattoos in Durango.
